A virgin forest in the middle of Germany
The Hainich National Park, UNESO world heritage site since 2011, enchants by its fascinating, unspoiled landscape with rare fauna and flora. Thus the motto is: “Let Nature be Nature“. Being a beech deciduous mixed forest, it is unique at any time of the year – whether at the time of ransom blossoms in spring or with its bright colours in autumn. The National Park is embedded in the even more diversified Nature Park of Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal.

Experiencing nature actively – our hiking tips:
from Hütscheroda to Behringen
You start directly at the Manor House on the Sculpture Trail in the direction of Behringen. Apart from first impressions of the Hainich National Park and its beautiful landscape, numerous sculptures wait for you to be discovered. The destination of the hiking tour is the sculpture park in Behringen where additional sculptural work awaits you.
trail from/to Hütscheroda
On the track of the wildcat – This about seven kilometre long circular walk passes through a variety of landscapes and begins directly at the Hotel. From the lookout tower after half of the way you can see the treetops of the Thuringian Forest and of the Rhön Mountains when there is a clear view. Afterwards, you are awaited by our beer garden...
The Hainichlandweg is a long-distance trail leading around Hainich over seven stages. Being a stage goal, Hütscheroda is situated directly at the trail which from here on leads to northeast to the Craulaer Cross and the canopy walkway to Weberstedt or to the west to Berka v.d.H. and then to Mihla.
Drachenschlucht (Dragon Ravine)
Legendary, spectacular, most beautiful – the Drachenschlucht inspires visitors again and again. The narrow gorge which is pleasantly cool even in summer can perfectly be combined with the adjacent ravine “Landgrafenschlucht” to an exciting circular walk.
from Hörselberg-Hainich / Hastrungsfeld
The Hörselberge mountains – the small and the large one – are real legend mountains. Mother Hulda is said to be at home here as well as Richard Wagner’s "Tannhäuser". Today, their location and the ridgeway with its fantastic views ensure that they are a popular hiking destination even among the local residents.
